Enabling Virtual Reality (VR) on your site enables
the user to view a 360° scene or object (e.g. room, golf course, sculpture,
car or product). Using this immersive technology, the user is put in control
of how they move around the scene or move an object.
There are two types of VR that we create utilising our own state of the
art photographic equipment and VR software.
Virtual Reality: Using mouse movements, you can view a panoramic
image horizontally and vertically as well as zooming in and out. Examples: Living Room -
QTVR (153kb) or Java
Virtual Reality: Using mouse movements, you can manipulate an object
along any axis, tilting it to gain a view from any direction. Examples: Rotating WWII Gun - QTVR
Resulting VR images can be rendered on web pages using two methods:
QuickTime Virtual Reality (QTVR) (Description)
which gives somewhat better image rendering but requires the QuickTime
plug-in to be installed on the browser's computer.
Embedded Java Applet (Description)
- Can be slower than QTVR but does not require any plug-in.
1. Virtual Tour of Ascension Island
This is part of the Administrator of Ascension Island's site.
The tour comprises an interactive map of the island with clickable
'hotspots', where the Internet user can click on an area of the
map and "virtually" visit the area he/she clicks on.
There are twenty-six individual QuickTime Virtual Reality (QTVR)
tours of the island on this site which can be panned around 360
degrees as well as zoomed in and out.
Each tour is in the QuickTime
Virtual Reality (QTVR) format and have been created by us
utilising our own state of the art photographic equipment and
image stitching software.
Ascension Island Tourist Services own and run almost all the
available accommodation on Ascension Island. This site showcases
the various types of accommodation that the island has to offer
and offers thirty-one interactive 360 degree QuickTime Virtual
Reality (QTVR) tours in high and low resolution format.
